These county ordinances apply to unincorporated areas of Tehama County. Incorporated cities within the county may have their own rules that take precedence over county-level regulations.

The 2022 California Electrical Code, Title 24, Part 3, of the California Code of Regulations, a portion of the California Building Standards Code, as defined in the California Health and Safety Code Section 18901 et seq., (hereinafter referred to as the "state code") and any rules and regulations promulgated pursuant thereto, incorporating the National Electrical Code, 2022 Edition, as referenced in and adopted pursuant to California Health and Safety Code Sections 17922 and 18935, (hereinafter referred to as the "NEC"), and the Informative Annex Chapters A, B, C, D, F, G, and I are hereby adopted and incorporated by reference herein. Except as otherwise provided by this chapter and Chapter 15.02 of the Tehama County Code, all electrical associated with construction, alteration, moving, demolition, repair and use of any building or structure within the county jurisdiction shall be made in compliance with the state code and any rules and regulations promulgated pursuant thereto, including the NEC.

There is one copy of said code on file in the office of the building official for use and examination by the public.

Full Breakdown

In the unincorporated area of Tehama County, California, all electrical work tied to construction, alteration, moving, demolition, repair or use of a building must comply with the 2022 California Electrical Code (Title 24, Part 3) and the 2022 National Electrical Code, adopted by County Code § 15.20.030. Tehama County Code § 15.02.310 separately requires a building official permit before most electrical work begins, with limited listed exemptions. Red Bluff, Corning and the City of Tehama enforce their own codes, not this county chapter.

Violations & Fines

Working without a required permit lets the building official record a notice of noncompliance against the property with the county recorder until a permit is obtained and the work passes inspection.
