McCracken County, KY Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

Section 71.02 of the McCracken County Code governs electrical permitting separately from the general building permit fee schedule in § 71.01. Under § 71.02(A), the County Fiscal Court contracts with a certified electrical inspector to provide plan review and inspection services for new construction, additions, remodels, repairs, upgrades and other projects that require an electrical permit. Division (B) requires the permit fee to be paid before any electrical work commences, and sets that base fee at $25; the electrical contractor, property owner or other responsible person must pay all fees to the inspector, who is responsible for collecting them under (C).

No certificate of inspection, compliance or other final approval can be issued under (D) until every required fee is paid. Beyond the flat $25 permit fee, § 71.02(F) layers on work-specific charges: $125 for an electrical plan review if one is required, $75 for a certificate-of-occupancy inspection on an existing building, and a $100 charge for each return trip the inspector has to make because previously-flagged work was not finished on schedule. For larger jobs, the fee scales with the completed value of the work: $125 if the work is valued under $8,000, $250 between $8,000 and $16,500, $500 between $16,500 and $25,000, and a percentage schedule above $25,000 running from 2% down to 1% as the project value rises through the $200,000, $300,000, $500,000 and $700,000 brackets. Copies of the inspection documentation and compliance certificate go to the County Inspection Department under (E).
