Stanislaus County, CA Building Safety: Electrical Permits (2026)

010 adopts the 2025 California Electrical Code, published by the National Fire Protection Agency, 2023 Edition, by reference and incorporates it as the electrical code of the county; a copy must be kept by the building official for public examination. 020(B), which mandates that anyone who intends to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert, or replace any electrical system regulated by the code first apply to the building official and obtain a permit before the work begins. 020 adds one local technical restriction on top of the adopted code: additional buildings or structures on a property may not have separate service equipment installed unless the authority having jurisdiction and the service provider approve it, and the applicant must submit written justification along with evidence that the structure meets applicable zoning and building codes with permits obtained and fees paid.

A parcel with an approved single-family dwelling is limited to one electrical service unless that approval is obtained. This keeps rural parcels with multiple outbuildings from adding unpermitted, unmetered service drops.
