Ascension Parish, LA Building Safety: Building Inspections (2026)

Section 6-9(900) makes any permitted construction or work subject to inspection by the Building Official, and requires it to remain accessible and exposed for inspection purposes until approved. The code lays out the sequence: a footing and foundation inspection under section 903 happens after excavation is complete and reinforcing steel is placed; a concrete slab and under-floor inspection under section 904 happens after in-slab reinforcing and service equipment are in place but before concrete is poured or subfloor installed; and a frame inspection under section 905 happens after the roof deck, framing, fireblocking and bracing are up and rough electrical, plumbing and HVAC work is approved.

Section 907 requires energy efficiency inspections covering envelope insulation R- and U-values, fenestration, duct system R-value, and HVAC and water-heating equipment efficiency. Mechanical, plumbing, electrical and gas systems each get their own inspection under sections 912 through 915. A final inspection under section 910 happens after all permitted work is complete, and section 911 requires flood-hazard-area projects to submit lowest-floor elevation documentation before a certificate of occupancy issues. Section 917 puts the burden on the permit holder to notify the Building Official when work is ready, and section 918 bars any work from proceeding beyond the point indicated in each successive inspection until the Building Official signs off on that stage.
