Ascension Parish, LA Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Ascension Parish's fence requirements, added to the UDC by ordinance on April 27, 2022 as Section 17-2082-B, regulate walls, fences and retaining walls parish-wide to protect visual appearance, compatibility with surrounding property and drainage. Subsection D, Height, sets only an alternative minimum: walls and fences enclosing refuse, service or sewer treatment facilities must be at least eight feet tall. The section does not print a general maximum fence height for a typical front, side or rear yard, so most fences are governed instead by the material and location rules in the same section rather than a numeric height cap.

Subsection F, Prohibited, bars two things outright regardless of height or material: fences and walls located within a servitude, or that otherwise impede or divert drainage flow, and fences or walls located within any required sight triangle, the corner visibility area kept clear near intersections and driveways. Subsection B exempts fences built of three-wire, split-rail, or other water-permeable materials in the Rural (R) or Conservation (C) districts from the section's requirements entirely. 00 under the parish's Appendix XII fee schedule, so even a low residential fence with no sight-triangle or drainage conflict still needs a permit before the posts go in the ground.
