Ascension Parish, LA Building Safety: Plumbing Permits (2026)

Sec. 6-1(b) makes it unlawful to erect, install, enlarge, alter, repair, remove, convert or replace any electrical, gas, mechanical or plumbing system without first applying to the building official for the required permit. Sec. 3, specifies that the International Plumbing Code as adopted and amended by the Louisiana State Uniform Construction Code Council governs the installation, alteration, repair and replacement of plumbing systems, including equipment, appliances, fixtures, fittings and appurtenances, and water, sewage and medical gas connections. The building official reviews plans, issues the permit, and can accept a certified third-party plan reviewer under Sec.

6-1(c). Sec. 6-8 sets the fee schedule: a residential new-construction plumbing (and/or gas) permit is $200 flat, and any other residential plumbing or gas permit, such as a repair or fixture replacement, is $50; commercial plumbing and gas permits are tiered by construction valuation from $125 up to $600. A residential building permit for additions, renovations or a pool also triggers electrical, mechanical and plumbing permits when applicable under Sec. 6-8. Starting work before the permit issues draws a separate fine under Sec. 6-8, item 802, of a minimum $200 up to $500, on top of the required fees; a re-inspection fee of $30 applies to each failed inspection per craft. Sec. 6-9 requires the work to remain accessible and exposed for inspection until the building official approves it.
