Tazewell County, IL Building Safety: Plumbing Permits (2026)

Section 154.085 adopts the current State of Illinois Plumbing Code, 77 Ill. Adm. Code Pt. 890, by reference as the plumbing code for the unincorporated county; § 154.001(B) limits that adoption, like the rest of Chapter 154, to areas outside incorporated municipalities. Section 154.011(D) defines a FIXTURE broadly to include any device requiring a plumbing connection, listing toilets, wash basins, interceptors, water heaters, bath tubs, sinks, drinking fountains, roughed-in fixtures, urinals, showers, floor drains, and sewage ejectors. The residential fee schedule in § 154.011(A)(5) charges $55 for up to 16 fixtures, plus $15 for each additional fixture and $15 for a domestic water heater; the commercial and multi-family schedule in § 154.011(B)(4) uses the same $55 base and $15 per-fixture add-on.

Several miscellaneous permits, including in-ground and above-ground swimming pools, are flagged in § 154.011(C) as likely to require a separate electrical and/or plumbing permit on top of the base fee. Private sewage disposal systems and water wells are carved out of the plumbing code entirely: § 154.001(C) and (D) route those to Chapter 94 instead. As with every permit under Chapter 154, work that stalls can get a one-time, half-price extension under § 154.011(E) if it's requested before the 180-day start deadline lapses and the plans haven't changed.
