In the Rural Residential (RR) zone, structures other than fences and signs must sit at least 20 feet from a state, county or public road right-of-way and at least 10 feet from all other property lines. Small under-120-square-foot structures may encroach.
Lane Code 16.290(7)(a) sets the RR property development standards. Structures other than a fence or sign must be located at least 20 feet from the right-of-way of a state road, county road or local access public road, and at least 10 feet from all other property lines. A structure under 120 square feet that is more than 10 feet from other structures may sit within the 10-foot setback. Lots under 1 acre created before March 30, 1984 use a reduced 5-foot side/rear setback. Along Class I streams, a 50-foot riparian setback applies. Farm (EFU) and Forest zones have their own, often larger, siting standards.
Structures built inside required setbacks without approval are code violations subject to Lane County Land Management enforcement and may require relocation or removal.
