Sec. 5 sets three separate 1,000-foot buffers for any use coded as an adult use under the UDC. Subsection (a) requires the distance between any adult use and any residential district or dwelling to be a minimum of 1,000 feet, measured in a straight line, without regard to intervening structures, from the closest exterior structural wall of the adult use to the closest property line of the residential district or dwelling. Subsection (b) applies the same 1,000-foot, straight-line, wall-to-property-line measurement between any two adult uses, so the businesses cannot cluster next to each other either.

Subsection (c) extends the buffer to a list of sensitive uses: any existing school, day care center, church or place of worship, park or recreational area, public library, museum, or community center, again measured without regard to intervening structures from the adult use's closest wall to the sensitive use's closest property line. Because the buffers run without regard to intervening structures, a business cannot rely on an adjacent building blocking the line-of-sight distance; the parish measures a straight line regardless of what stands in the way.

An adult use also has to carry the licenses required under chapter 20, offenses and miscellaneous provisions, which is where the parish's definitions of sexually oriented business sit, and any adult use permitted in a commercial district like C-1 must separately satisfy Sec. 3, specific use standards, before the parish issues site plan approval.
