Full Breakdown

Section 5 of the zoning ordinance lists permitted and conditional uses district by district. 'Automobile repair shop' appears exactly once, as a Permitted Use in the C-G General Commercial District (§5.A(17)); it is not on the A-1, A-2, R-S, R-D or R-M use lists. The Home Occupation definition further bars 'mechanical equipment' beyond what's 'customary for purely domestic household purposes,' so a business repairing vehicles for pay can't run as a home occupation in unincorporated Boone County either.

Violations & Fines

Operating an auto repair business from a home in a district where it isn't a listed use is a zoning violation and a misdemeanor under Section 18.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I fix cars for money in my garage in unincorporated Boone County?
Not as a business, 'automobile repair shop' is a permitted use only in the C-G Commercial District, and the county's home occupation rules bar non-domestic mechanical equipment.
What about working on my own personal vehicles at home?
This rule targets operating a repair business for pay, which requires C-G commercial zoning, not maintaining your own vehicles.
