Macon County, IL Business Licensing & Operations: Tattoo & Body Modification (2026)

Chapter 112 of the Macon County Code regulates body art establishments and practitioners, defined to include tattooing, cosmetic tattooing, body piercing, and branding, but not medical procedures like scalpel implants or ear piercing done with a pre-sterilized stud-and-clasp system. 01 subjects every body art establishment and practitioner in the county to this chapter, the state Tattoo and Body Piercing Establishment Registration Act, and the Illinois Department of Public Health Body Art Code, which the county adopts by reference along with future revisions. 15 makes it unlawful to practice body art procedures in the county without a body art practitioner permit issued by the Macon County Health Department, renewable annually, and requires the permit to be posted where clients can see it.

Applicants must submit personal identifying information, proof of training and experience, documentation of a Department-approved blood-borne pathogen training course such as Red Cross or OSHA training, and a signed Hepatitis B declaration or vaccination record. 16, as are operators who perform only non-cartilaginous ear piercing with pre-sterilized stud-and-clasp systems, though the Health Department retains authority to investigate complaints about misuse of those systems. 17(D) adds a $50 late payment penalty on top of the regular fee. 18 for noncompliance with the chapter.
