El Dorado County, CA Cannabis Regulations: Buffer Zones (2026)

200(B) of the County Code bars outdoor or mixed-light commercial cannabis cultivation within 1,500 feet of any school, school bus stop, place of worship, park, playground, child care center, youth-oriented facility, pre-school, public library, licensed drug or alcohol recovery facility, or licensed sober living facility. The distance is a direct straight-line measurement from the nearest point of the cultivation premises to the nearest point of the sensitive use's property line, and a new sensitive use moving in next door later does not force out an already-permitted grow.

Subsection (C) layers on two more buffers that apply regardless of nearby sensitive uses: a minimum 800-foot setback from the cultivation site's own property line or any public right-of-way, and a 300-foot setback from the upland extent of riparian vegetation along any watercourse, protecting waterways from runoff and diversion. 200(3). 300(C), so a proposed cultivation site and a proposed retail site are each screened against the buffer for their own activity type, not a shared countywide rule.
