Transient Occupancy Tax
In the City of Montebello, every hotel guest pays a transient occupancy tax of thirty-seven percent of the rent charged, collected by the operator under Montebello Municipal Code Section 3.40.030(A). The rate has been adjusted every July 1st since 1979 by the change in the Los Angeles-Riverside-Orange County consumer price index measured against a June 1978 base.

A.For the privilege of occupancy in any hotel, each transient is subject to, and shall pay, a tax in the amount of thirty-seven percent of the rent charged by the operator. The tax constitutes a debt owed by the transient to the city, which is extinguished only by payment to the operator or to the city. The transient shall pay the tax to the operator of the hotel at the time the rent is paid. ....
