Dougherty County, GA Code Violation Reporting: How to Report (2026)

Sec. 2-14-75(b) of the Vegetation Control Ordinance requires that the Albany-Dougherty Planning & Development Services Department, Dougherty County Police Department, Dougherty County Sheriff's Department and the Dougherty County Public Works Department shall report all complaints of violations of any of the provisions of this article to the director of code enforcement or his designee. That spreads intake across four agencies rather than funneling residents to a single hotline. Subsection (c) then authorizes officers, investigators and other appropriate staff for the Albany-Dougherty Code Enforcement Department, Albany-Dougherty Planning & Development Services Department, Dougherty County Public Works Department, Dougherty County Police Department and Dougherty County Sheriff's Department to issue a citation once a violation is confirmed.

Once a report reaches the director of code enforcement, the Sec. 2-14-74 process takes over: a first substantiated violation draws a written warning with seven days to cut the growth, a second violation or a missed deadline brings a citation in Dougherty County Magistrate Court, and an abandoned or vacant lot instead gets the 14-day posted abatement notice described in Sec. 2-14-74(e). Subsection (d) of Sec. 2-14-75 also preserves the county's right to pursue civil remedies, including injunctions or mandamus, on top of any citation.
