Okaloosa County, FL Code Violation Reporting: How to Report (2026)

Section 11-604 places primary enforcement responsibility with the code enforcement division of the Okaloosa County Growth Management Department, which handles the Land Development Code, Construction Industry Licensing under chapter 6, Article III nuisances of chapter 11, the Florida Building and Life Safety Codes, the Okaloosa Island protective covenants and restrictions under Chapter 75-456, Laws of Florida, and Section 21-65 nuisance vehicles. The code enforcement division can draw on mutual assistance from the Okaloosa County Sheriff's Department or the Florida Department of Health when circumstances call for it.

Under subsection (2), a complaint only gets investigated once it arrives through the citizen request for service system or in a form containing a legible name, signature, address, or other means that makes the complainant identifiable; the section doesn't provide for anonymous reporting. Complaints and the information tied to them are treated as public record and made available on request, except where the law provides an exemption. Once an officer investigates and confirms a violation, Section 11-605 requires a written notice of violation with a reasonable correction period before the case can go to the Code Enforcement Board, which under Section 11-607(j)(2) can fine a first violation up to $250 a day past the correction deadline, up to $500 a day for a repeat violation, or up to $5,000 for a violation found irreparable or irreversible.
