Little Rock, AR Code Violation Reporting: Response Times (2026)

When a Little Rock rental inspector documents a violation under Sec. 8-583, the written notice must describe the property, explain the finding, and set out the repair deadline: the owner has seven days to correct any life-safety violation before the city will issue or restore a certificate of compliance. Non-life-safety items get thirty days, though the building code official can stretch that to sixty days if the owner already cleared the life-safety items within the first week and is making consistent, continuous progress on the rest.

Owners of four or more rental units can instead submit a rehabilitation plan for the whole portfolio and get up to twenty-four months to reach compliance, but life-safety violations are barred from that extended track. The tightest clock in the ordinance runs when the city moves to cut off utilities at a unit with a life-safety violation. The property is first posted with notice of the violation and the review procedure. From there the owner has only seventy-two hours, excluding weekends and holidays, to ask the neighborhood programs manager for an administrative review; that review must then happen within two working days, conducted jointly by the neighborhood programs manager, the building codes manager, and the fire marshal at the unit itself.

Miss the seventy-two-hour window and utilities can be shut off without further notice. If a violation is classified as life threatening rather than merely life safety, the ordinance strips out the review step entirely, and if the review team is denied entry to re-inspect, utilities may be terminated regardless. Before March 15, 2001 the review-request window was ninety-six hours; the code still preserves that historical date in the text.
