Full Breakdown
Milwaukee's health department enforces the food code chapter through mandatory reinspection deadlines. Under Code of Ordinances § 68-9-3, any violation found during a routine inspection or a complaint investigation must be reinspected within 30 days to confirm it was corrected and stays corrected, regardless of whether the operator claimed to fix it on the spot. Section 68-9-4 requires the department to investigate every complaint alleging a licensing, sanitation, foodborne-illness, or food-handling violation, and holds violations found that way to the same reinspection and fee schedule as a routine inspection. Priority violations carry a separate, faster 72-hour correction clock under § 68-41-1-c.
Violations & Fines
Missing a correction deadline (72 hours for priority violations, up to 90 days for core violations) can trigger a citation, license suspension, or an emergency order to cease food operations under §§ 68-9-5 and 68-41.
