Abandoned Vehicles

New Hanover County bans abandoning or junking any vehicle anywhere in the unincorporated county under Code of Ordinances Sec. 23-114. Sheriff's deputies can tow a junked or partially dismantled vehicle from a public street or a private lot, and vehicles that block traffic, hold pooled water, harbor rodents, or sit under weeds taller than eight inches are declared health or safety hazards subject to faster removal.

Sec. 23-114. - Maintenance of abandoned, junked vehicle prohibited. It shall be unlawful for any person to abandon or junk any vehicle within this county and for any person to leave or allow to remain any partially dismantled, nonoperating, (other than a licensed business operator) junked, or otherwise discarded vehicle.
