Bike Lane Rules

In unincorporated San Diego County, Section 72.230 of the County Traffic Code makes it unlawful to ride a bicycle on any sidewalk located within a business district. Once a cyclist is on the roadway instead, Section 72.233 subjects them to the same rights and duties as the driver of a motor vehicle. A first offense is an infraction, punishable by up to a $100 fine under the Code's general penalty schedule at Section 11.116(c).
