Clark County enforces one of the strictest juvenile curfews in Nevada. Minors under 18 are prohibited from public places from 10 pm to 5 am on weekdays and midnight to 5 am on weekends. Curfew near the Las Vegas Strip is even more restrictive.
Clark County Code Chapter 10.32 establishes a juvenile curfew for unincorporated Clark County, including areas bordering the Las Vegas Strip. Under the standard county-wide curfew, minors under 18 may not be in public places, businesses open to the public, or on public streets during curfew hours without a parent, guardian, or qualifying exception. Standard hours are 10 pm to 5 am Sunday through Thursday and midnight to 5 am Friday and Saturday. Clark County enforces an even stricter special curfew in the Las Vegas Resort Corridor (Strip area in unincorporated Paradise) — often 9 pm to 5 am for those under 18, designed to prevent unsupervised juveniles in the high-tourist entertainment district. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department and Nevada Highway Patrol actively enforce curfew. Exceptions include: accompanied by a parent, guardian, or authorized adult; traveling to or from work with documentation; attending a supervised school, religious, or municipally supervised event; responding to an emergency; or authorized First Amendment activity. Parents and guardians face a separate offense for knowingly allowing juveniles to violate curfew. Violations are a misdemeanor for the minor (processed through juvenile court) and a misdemeanor for a parent who knowingly permits the violation. Clark County operates curfew processing centers during peak events to efficiently handle detained minors. The curfew has survived constitutional challenges and has been credited with reducing juvenile crime in the Las Vegas Valley.
Minor violators may be cited and released to a parent or transported to a juvenile curfew center — repeat violations or accompanying offenses can lead to juvenile court proceedings. Parents found knowingly permitting curfew violation face misdemeanor charges with fines typically up to 500 dollars and possible community service.
