Calvert County, MD Curfew Laws: Park Curfew (2026)

Section 82-2-102 of the Calvert County Code puts the Department of Parks and Recreation in charge of setting each park's posted hours, with a default rule for any park property that has no lighting: it should be open civil dawn to civil twilight, the window bounded by when the sun's disk is fully below the horizon at each end of the day. Regular hours must be posted at the park itself and through the county's electronic information outlets, but the Director keeps discretion under § 82-2-102A to close any section of any park, temporarily or on a standing schedule, for any interval and for any reason tied to the closure.

Once a park is closed for the night, § 82-2-102B makes it unlawful for anyone to remain on the property unless the facility is officially open to the public for a special event or planned activity. The code carves out four narrow exceptions: law enforcement officers and Department officials performing their duties, people they authorize or accompany, and campers holding a valid, current campsite agreement or lease, such as at Breezy Point Beach and Campground. Applicability runs to Department-managed park property in unincorporated Calvert County, outside the self-governing towns of Chesapeake Beach and North Beach.

Enforcement and penalties come from § 82-1-104: a citation for being on park property after hours carries a $50 civil penalty per day, and refusing an order from law enforcement or a Department official to leave, or returning before being authorized back, is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a $1,000 fine, six months' imprisonment, or both.
