Lynchburg, VA Curfew Laws: Park Curfew (2026)

Section 28-4 of the Lynchburg City Code, carried over from Code 1959 Sec. without the consent of the city manager or his authorized official, unless park rules and regulations otherwise provide. The section gives the city manager, not just police discretion in the field, the authority to waive the curfew for a specific park or event. Chapter 28 reinforces the same overnight closure elsewhere: Sec. , or during any other posted closure period, so someone who parks and stays past the curfew risks two distinct violations, one for being on foot in the park and one for the vehicle.

Section 28-6 lets the director of parks and recreation issue additional rules for individual parks and playgrounds, including different or extended hours where posted, and violating those posted rules is a separate class 1 misdemeanor rather than falling under Sec. 28-4 itself. Monument Terrace, the stepped public plaza downtown, carries its own protective rule in Sec. 28-5 limiting where people can walk, but the general curfew in Sec. 28-4 applies across all city park property unless a park's own posted signage says otherwise.
