Aurora, IL Drone Rules: Event Drone Restrictions (2026)

A tier 1 event is a special event that does not qualify as a tier 2 event and: Contemplates the use of more than two (2) consecutive blocks of streets, sidewalks, or right-of-ways; or Is a carnival or a circus; or To which the coordinator estimates will attract one-thousand (1,000) or more attendees per day; or Reserved. Includes the use of pyrotechnics, live animals, motorized vehicles other than transportation purposes, or flying objects, including but not limited to, drones. A tier 2 event is a special event that does not qualify as a tier 3 event and: Is a stationary gathering upon a single city property or which will require the closure of up to two (2) blocks of a street, sidewalk, or other city right-of-way; or Is a gathering lasting fewer than four (4) days, that is held primarily on private property; or To which the coordinator estimates will attract fewer than one-thousand (1,000), but more than two-hundred fifty (250) attendees per day; or A tier 3 event is a special event which does not qualify as a tier 4 event and: Which the coordinator estimates will attract fewer than one-thousand (1,000), but more than two-hundred fifty (250) attendees per day, and: The applicant or a person acting on the applicant's behalf does not expect to offer liquor for sale and: Is stationary, impacts only one (1) block of a sidewalk or a city right-of-way that is not a street; or only needs a permit issued for temporary street closure; or
