Mount Pleasant, SC Drone Rules: Park Drone Restrictions (2026)

03(P) of the Mount Pleasant Code, titled 'Flying objects,' provides that no person shall operate a drone or any other remotely controlled flying object, fly a kite, or release helium balloons, flying lanterns or any other flying object at the MWP, the Mount Pleasant Memorial Waterfront Park along the Cooper River near Patriots Point. The subsection is written specifically for the MWP rather than for every town-owned park; the chapter separately defines Shem Creek Park (SCP) and 'other' designated parks, so a drone flown at a different town park is not necessarily reached by this exact clause the way an MWP flight is.

03's other prohibited park activities, adopted under the town's police powers because of the park's high volume of tourist and local visitors, alongside bans on fireworks, unleashed animals, feeding birds, camping and cooking equipment without event approval. There is no permit process described in this section for a one-time drone flight at the MWP; the text is a flat prohibition rather than a registration or fee-based restriction, and no exception is written in for a town-sponsored or special event the way the cooking, alcohol and amplified-music subsections allow.
