Recreational drone use in Anaheim is heavily restricted by a federal no-fly zone over the Anaheim Resort area extending 3.5 miles in each direction up to 3,000 feet. FAA Part 107 and TRUST certification requirements apply.
A federal Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) and permanent no-fly zone cover the Anaheim Resort area including Disneyland and surrounding attractions. This zone extends approximately 3.5 miles in each direction and up to 3,000 feet altitude, reaching westward nearly to Dale Street, south beyond city limits into Garden Grove, north to the 91 Freeway, and east to the 57 Freeway. This effectively prohibits recreational drone flight over much of central Anaheim. FAA requires recreational drone pilots to pass the TRUST (Recreational UAS Safety Test) and register drones over 0.55 lbs. Flying over stadiums, sporting events, and large gatherings is prohibited. Drones must yield to manned aircraft. Night flying requires anti-collision lighting. Privacy concerns over residential areas may result in local enforcement action.
Federal no-fly zone violation: FAA enforcement up to $20,000 civil penalty. Criminal penalties possible for endangering aircraft. Local citation for privacy/nuisance violations.
