Allen County's Zoning Ordinance (administered by the Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Planning Services) allows fences up to 8 feet in height in permitted rear and side yards. This does not include the front yard, where only a 3-foot ornamental fence is allowed, or any fence beyond a build line. Height is measured as the vertical distance from finished grade on the highest side to the top of the fence. On a vacant lot, an ornamental fence up to 3 feet or an open fence up to 4 feet is permitted. Inside Fort Wayne, New Haven, Grabill, and other towns, the municipality's own code applies instead.
