Full Breakdown
Broward County's zoning code sets a 6-foot maximum for fences, walls, and hedges on residentially-zoned property, per Sec. 39-275(4). That rises to 8 feet where a residential lot line (not at a corner) abuts commercial or industrial zoning. On corner lots, an opaque fence, wall, or hedge cannot exceed 30 inches within 25 feet of where the front and side street property lines meet, preserving sightlines for drivers. Barbed wire, electrified, and razor wire fencing are barred on residential property, and height is measured from the established grade. This chapter applies only in unincorporated Broward under Sec. 39-2 -- Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Pembroke Pines, Coral Springs, and the county's other 27 municipalities set their own fence rules.
Violations & Fines
Code enforcement can require an oversized or corner-obstructing fence to be cut down or removed, with fines accruing under the county's code enforcement process (Ch. 8 1/2) for each day the violation continues.
