Nampa, ID Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Fence heights are set by Nampa City Code 10-1-8 (Fences and Walls). In residential districts (10-1-8.D), interior lots may have solid/closed nonvision fences up to 36 inches, or open-vision fences up to 48 inches, in the required front-yard setback. Perimeter fences up to 72 inches are permitted from a point behind the front of the dwelling to and along the rear property line; solid fences over 36 inches generally may not be built across the front of a residence between side property lines without a variance. On corner lots, the same 36-inch/48-inch limits apply in the front-yard setback, and a 72-inch fence may run along the side street starting 50 feet back from the curb to and along the rear property line, provided no fence over 36 inches sits in a vision-clearance triangle (a 7.5-foot vision triangle is required where the rear line abuts an alley or drive approach). Heights are measured at grade within 6 inches of the bottom of the fence. Commercial/industrial properties (10-1-8.E) may have fences up to 8 feet (6 feet for multifamily projects). Walls, hedges, berms, and latticework are treated as functionally equivalent to fences for height purposes.
