In unincorporated Pasco County, residential gates, fences, and walls are limited to 4 feet in the front yard (or in front of the dwelling) and 6 feet in side and rear yards. Nonresidential fences may reach 8 feet in any yard.
Pasco County Land Development Code (LDC) Section 1003.3 (Residential Requirements) caps gates, fences, and walls at four (4) feet in the front yard or in front of the dwelling unit, except as part of a continuous subdivision buffer wall, and at six (6) feet in side or rear yards. On double-frontage lots the 4-foot limit applies to the front yard parallel to the principal building line where the front door is located; in the other front yard a 6-foot fence may be allowed if it meets the district's required front setback. Section 1003.4 (Nonresidential Requirements) allows fences up to eight (8) feet in any yard. Under Section 1003.1.E, height is measured and averaged at roughly eight-foot intervals; berms count toward height, support poles, columns, and decorative lights may exceed the limit by up to 1 foot, and gates may exceed it by up to 2 feet.
Fences exceeding the LDC Section 1003 height limits are a Land Development Code violation enforced by Pasco County Code Enforcement, which can issue a notice of violation, require the fence be lowered or removed, and refer the matter to the Code Enforcement Special Magistrate for fines. Where 50% or more of a nonconforming fence is damaged or removed, Section 1003.1.D requires any replacement to comply with current height limits.
