Imperial County, CA Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Imperial County's fence chapter sets a height limit for the areas where visibility matters most. In any R zone, or an A (agricultural) zone with residential character, fencing inside the required front yard setback can't exceed thirty inches if it's obscuring (solid), or forty-eight inches if it's see-through, such as open wrought iron or chain link: plus up to twelve inches of decorative cap. Separately, on any corner parcel in any zone, fencing can't exceed thirty inches in height if it would obstruct sightlines for traffic. Outside the front yard and corner-visibility areas, this section imposes no height cap, though fences over 84 inches trigger a separate building permit requirement.
