The minimum perimeter fence height is four feet. Fences with varying height differentials, may gradually taper down to a connecting fence height, provided the connecting fence is an approved improvement. The maximum fence heights allowed are: Eight-foot six inch (for solid fencing) on properties adjacent to arterial/major thoroughfares and collector streets; Seven-foot six inch (for solid fencing) on all other properties; Six-foot six inches for all transparent fencing. ROT BOARDS: A horizontal rot board six inches or less in height is approvable at the bottom of the fence.

Full Breakdown

The Woodlands Residential Development Standards allow fence heights up to 8 feet with prior written approval from the Residential Design Review Committee (RDRC). Individual neighborhood Criteria may specify 6-foot height restrictions, but the Standards provide that where a Criteria specifies 6 feet, the Standards' allowance for taller fences will prevail for fence height specifically. A single rot board up to 6 inches may be added at the base, adding up to 6 additional inches. The smooth side of all fences must face outward. All lots have restricted fence designs with specific rules for corner lots, lots on golf courses or lakes, and patio/townhome lots.

Violations & Fines

Covenant violation for unapproved fence height. Compliance notices and civil enforcement possible. Owner may be required to modify or remove non-compliant fencing.
