Twin Falls County, ID Fence Regulations: Height Limits (2026)

Twin Falls County's zoning title does not set a single county-wide fence height for every yard; instead, the specific numeric limit in Title 8, Chapter 9 targets sightlines at corner lots. Section 8-9-3(D), Clear View Of Intersecting Streets, applies in any zone that requires a front yard and bars any obstruction, which includes a fence, wall, hedge or sign, taller than three feet as measured from the road surface. The restricted area is a triangle formed by the highway right-of-way lines of the two intersecting streets and a line connecting points forty-five feet from where those right-of-way lines meet, so a corner property owner needs to keep fencing low near the street corner even where interior side and rear fences run taller.

The same chapter separately regulates a different fence: section 8-9-3(C) requires any salvage yard built after the ordinance's 1998 effective date to install a sight-obscuring baked enamel metal fence at least eight feet tall, set back at least ten feet from the right-of-way, a rule aimed at auto wrecking and salvage operations rather than residential yards. Because the code does not list a general residential fence-height number for front, side and rear yards outside the corner-lot triangle and the salvage-yard rule, property owners building a standard yard fence should confirm placement with the Zoning Administrator before construction.

The Board of County Commissioners enforces Title 8 through the Zoning Administrator, and a violation of the corner-lot visibility rule is handled under the same permitting and code-enforcement process as other zoning violations in the unincorporated county outside the cities' areas of impact.
