Henrico County, VA Fence Regulations: Material Restrictions (2026)

Under Sec. 24-5405.A, permitted fence and wall materials must be durable all-weather materials, listing masonry, stone, wrought iron, welded steel, electroplated aluminum, pressure-treated or rot-resistant lumber, composite materials designed to appear as wood or masonry, vinyl, or similar customary fencing materials. Chain-link is allowed, but outside the C-1, A-1, and M-3 districts and away from single-family or two-family dwellings and school athletic fields, chain-link fences must be vinyl-clad and supplemented with landscaped screening along the outward-facing side. At ordinary single-family homes, standard chain-link is permitted.
