Clarksville, TN Fence Regulations: Material Restrictions (2026)

City Code Sec. 10-203 makes barbed wire fencing of any type unlawful for residential property owners, and unlawful below five feet above grade on commercial property. Land zoned agricultural is exempt from that section. The zoning ordinance adds material standards where a fence satisfies a landscape buffer screening requirement: under Zoning Ordinance Sec. 7.12, opaque fences must use permanently affixed materials that form an integral part of the fence, nonrigid plastic or fabric does not count, walls must be natural stone, brick or weatherproof equivalents, and chain link fencing may not be used. Those screening fences carry a six-foot cap in front and side street yards, eight feet in side and rear yards, and eighty percent minimum opacity.
