Ascension Parish, LA Fence Regulations: Fence Permit Requirements (2026)

UDC Section 17-2082-B(C), Permit Required, states plainly that a fence permit must be issued by the Building Department before construction of any fence or wall in unincorporated Ascension Parish. The requirement applies to new and existing development parish-wide, with one exception carved out in subsection B: fences built of three-wire, split-rail, or other water-permeable materials in the Rural (R) or Conservation (C) districts fall outside the section altogether and do not need a permit under this rule. For everyone else, the permit application is reviewed against the same section's standards, including the approved and prohibited materials list in subsection E, the eight-foot minimum height for fences enclosing refuse, service or sewer treatment facilities in subsection D, and the outright bans on fences in drainage servitudes or required sight triangles in subsection F.
