Yavapai County requires a fence permit when a residential fence is more than 6 feet tall, 50 cumulative linear feet or more, or made of masonry. The permit fee is $40 at issuance through Development Services.
Under the Yavapai County Fence Permit packet, a residential fence requires a building permit if any one of three conditions applies: the fence is taller than six feet, the cumulative length of new fencing on the parcel is 50 linear feet or more, or the fence is masonry β block, brick, or stone β regardless of size. The current fee is $40 at issuance. The application requires a site plan showing fence location, height, materials, and distance to property lines, plus engineering review for fences over six feet to confirm wind load. Inside incorporated city limits, the city's own permit rules apply instead.
Building a fence that meets any permit trigger without first obtaining a permit is a building code violation. Code Enforcement may require an after-the-fact permit at higher fees, modifications, or removal if the fence cannot be made compliant.
