All consumer fireworks are illegal in Prince George's County, including the sparklers and ground-based sparkling devices that Maryland allows statewide. Only a licensed shooter conducting a permitted public display may use fireworks here.
Maryland statewide permits gold-label sparklers, ground-based sparkling devices, and novelties like snakes and party poppers, but the Maryland State Fire Marshal confirms that in Prince George's County all fireworks are illegal, including those ground-based sparklers. County Code Subtitle 11, Section 11-267 makes it unlawful to manufacture, possess, store, sell, discharge, use, burn, or explode any fireworks in the county, with the sole exception of an authorized public display conducted by a licensed fireworks shooter. Displays require Office of the Fire Marshal approval, and any fireworks brought in for a display must be stored under conditions approved in advance. Firecrackers, bottle rockets, Roman candles, mortars, and aerials are prohibited everywhere in Maryland.
Violating Section 11-267 carries a maximum penalty of up to a $1,000 fine and/or up to 6 months in jail. Law enforcement may issue a citation and confiscate the fireworks.
