Calvert County, MD Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Section 82-2-101A of Chapter 82 (Parks and Recreation) lists fireworks among the acts 'unlawful for any person in or on park property' to do: subsection (2) bars anyone from setting 'off fireworks, unless expressly permitted, in writing, by the Director' of the Department of Parks and Recreation. The same list's subsection (1) separately prohibits lighting 'a fire, except in fixtures supplied by the Department,' so campfires, bonfires and grills outside designated fixtures are restricted alongside fireworks. This export of the Code of Calvert County contains no general, county-wide fireworks ordinance outside the parks chapter; consumer fireworks use on private property elsewhere in Calvert County is not addressed by a local ordinance found in this code.

Within parks, the fireworks ban sits among other Director-authorization requirements in the same list, including generator use (§ 82-2-101A(25)) and gas grills or smokers used outside a permitted special event (§ 82-2-101A(30)), reflecting a park-wide policy that open flame and pyrotechnics require advance written sign-off from Department staff rather than case-by-case discretion at the gate. A special event permit under § 82-1-102 is the mechanism organizers use to route a fireworks-display request through the Department's permitting process described in § 82-1-103D, and park rangers, Department officials or the Calvert County Sheriff's Office can cite a violation on the spot.
