Ohio HB 172 (effective July 1, 2022) legalized consumer fireworks discharge on designated days. Legal days include July 3 to 5, Dec 31-Jan 1, New Year's Day, Memorial Day weekend, Labor Day weekend, Cinco de Mayo, Juneteenth, and Diwali. Discharge hours are 4 PM to 11 PM, extended to midnight on July 4, Dec 31, and New Year's Day. Must be 18+ to purchase. Cities may impose additional restrictions but cannot ban fireworks on state-designated days during legal hours.
Discharge on non-legal days: up to $500 fine. Underage possession: $150. City ordinance violations: per local code.
