Lancaster County, SC Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Lancaster County's code does not carry a stand-alone fireworks chapter or a general county-wide ban on selling, possessing or discharging fireworks; the only fireworks-specific provision found in the code sits inside the parks and recreation article's list of prohibited acts. Sec. 24-3(6) makes it unlawful for anyone to possess a firearm, air gun, explosive or firework in a county park or recreation area, and it flags that firearm possession is already addressed by South Carolina's own firearms statutes. The rule carries a narrow set of exceptions: duly authorized park personnel, law enforcement officers, and people using areas the director of the parks and recreation department has specifically designated for firearms, air guns, fireworks or explosives may possess these items.

Outside those exceptions, and outside a designated area, setting off or even carrying fireworks in a county park is prohibited regardless of the type of firework or the time of year, including around the Fourth of July or New Year's. Because this rule lives in Chapter 24 rather than the fire prevention chapter, it governs conduct specifically on county park property; it does not purport to regulate fireworks use on private property elsewhere in unincorporated Lancaster County, which falls instead under state fireworks statutes the county code does not restate here. Sec. 24-4 folds a violation of the fireworks provision into the article's general misdemeanor penalty.
