Only non-explosive, non-aerial consumer fireworks are legal statewide: wire/wood sparklers, cones, fountains, snakes and smoke devices. Firecrackers, bottle rockets, skyrockets, Roman candles and any aerial or explosive fireworks are ILLEGAL everywhere in Minnesota. Cities may restrict further.
Minnesota law (Minn. Stat. §624.20) defines almost all fireworks as illegal, including firecrackers, skyrockets, Roman candles and most sparklers. Paragraph (c) narrowly exempts wire or wood sparklers (max 100 grams), non-explosive sparkling items, snakes, glow worms, smoke devices and trick noisemakers. §624.21 makes it unlawful to sell, possess, use or explode any fireworks outside those exemptions. Legal items cannot be used on public property, and buyers must be 18+ with photo ID. Anoka County cities (Blaine, Coon Rapids) may impose additional limits, so check your city fire department before igniting anything.
Selling, possessing or using illegal fireworks is a misdemeanor under Minn. Stat. §624.22; local fire officials and police enforce, and offenders may face fines and confiscation.
