All consumer fireworks are illegal in unincorporated Washoe County. Nevada leaves fireworks to counties, and Washoe bans possession, use, storage, and discharge everywhere except by a state-licensed pyrotechnic operator with a fire permit.
Washoe County Code 50.284 prohibits anyone from possessing, using, storing, or discharging fireworks of any class in the unincorporated county unless licensed by the Nevada State Fire Marshal as an (assistant) pyrotechnic operator under NAC 477.622-477.628 and holding the required Fire Code permit. Truckee Meadows Fire (TMFPD) and the Washoe County Sheriff enforce the ban. It may be legal to buy fireworks outside the county or on tribal lands, but possessing or using them anywhere in Washoe County is illegal. Fireworks are treated as an intent-to-discharge nuisance subject to seizure and forfeiture.
Misdemeanor under WCC 50.290: up to a $1,000 fine and up to 6 months in jail. Offenders (including parents of juveniles) may also owe fire-suppression and hazmat-disposal costs.
