Whitfield County, GA Fire Regulations: Fireworks (2026)

Section 11-7(n) of the Whitfield County Code places fireworks among the prohibited acts inside every park and recreational area the county owns or operates under § 11-1, alongside campfires restricted to designated areas under § 11-14 and amplified sound restrictions under § 11-7(p). The listed items covered by the fireworks ban include firecrackers, fireworks, smoke bombs, rockets, black powder guns and "other pyrotechnics," and the department can lift the ban only through a written permit issued in advance, the same permitting mechanism used for drones under § 11-7(r) and fundraising events under § 11-7(o).

Section 11-2 defines "department" as the Whitfield County parks and recreation department, operating under the board of commissioners, which is the office that reviews any request to use fireworks on park grounds, for example during an organized event. Because § 11-1 extends the chapter to "all parks and recreational areas owned and operated by Whitfield County," this fireworks restriction covers every county park, camping area and sports field, but it does not by its terms reach private property, streets or other county land outside a designated park.

Whitfield County's Code of Ordinances contains no separate chapter regulating fireworks use generally in the unincorporated county, so § 11-7(n) is the only fireworks provision the county code itself supplies.
