Hillsborough County has been under repeated extended Emergency Bans on Open Burning through spring 2026 (most recent extension issued May 28, 2026). All outdoor open burning, fireworks, sparklers, and fire pits are prohibited while the order is active.
The only exceptions during a burn ban are: (1) a constantly-attended barbecue grill for outdoor cooking, (2) certain agricultural plastic burns in eastern/southern Hillsborough, and (3) burns specifically authorized by the Florida Forest Service. Yard-debris burning, leaf piles, and ceremonial fires are all prohibited during the ban.
