Outdoor burning rules in Collier County, FL — also called the burn ban, open burning, or fire restriction ordinance — set when you can burn yard waste, debris, or run a recreational fire.
Open outdoor fires, incinerators, and outdoor fireplaces require a permit in Collier County. You must obtain approval from your local fire district and, where applicable, an open-burn authorization from the Florida Forest Service before burning yard waste.
Under Fire Prevention Code Policy OPB 09-1, 'Permits are required for Open Outdoor Fires, Incinerators, and Outdoor Fireplaces. Permits shall be sought from the Fire District where the burning is to take place and from the Florida Division of Forestry when applicable.' To burn yard waste (vegetative debris), call the Florida Forest Service for a burn authorization, which is issued day-of based on weather and drought conditions. Only unprocessed vegetation grown on-site may be burned—no household trash, tires, or treated wood. Cooking and small recreational fires are exempt. All open burning is suspended during a drought burn ban.
Open burning without required fire-district and Forest Service authorization is a civil infraction prosecuted under the Collier County Consolidated Code Enforcement Ordinance.
