Anaheim Fire & Rescue enforces California Fire Code Chapter 61 propane (LPG) storage limits, capping aggregate residential cylinder storage and requiring permits for tanks above household barbecue thresholds.
Anaheim adopts the California Fire Code via AMC Title 16, which limits residential liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) storage. Single-family homes typically may store up to two 20-pound barbecue cylinders connected and a small reserve outdoors, with aggregate limits well below commercial volumes. Cylinders must sit on noncombustible bases at least 10 feet from ignition sources, vents, and property lines. Stationary tanks over 125 gallons trigger AFR permits, setback engineering, and bollards. Indoor garage storage of LPG is prohibited above small portable cylinders. Apartments and condominiums often face stricter HOA and fire-marshal limits.
Storing excess propane cylinders, placing tanks too close to structures or vents, or installing larger stationary tanks without an AFR permit can lead to red-tag orders and code citations.
