The Ohio Fire Code (OAC 1301:7-7-61) governs LP-gas storage countywide. Inside a home, only tiny cylinders are allowed (max 2.7 lb water capacity each, 5.4 lb aggregate per unit). Larger tanks and grill cylinders must be stored outside per NFPA 58.
Ohio Fire Code rule 1301:7-7-61 adopts NFPA 58 for LP-gas storage and handling. Cylinders stored within a residential building (including basements, common storage, and attached garages) are limited to a maximum water capacity of 2.7 pounds each, not exceeding 5.4 pounds aggregate per living-space unit. Standard 20-pound grill cylinders therefore cannot be stored indoors or in attached garages and must be kept outdoors, upright, away from ignition sources. Installation and larger tanks are subject to fire-code-official approval. This is a statewide fire-code rule enforced by your city or township fire official; the county sets no separate propane ordinance.
Improper LP-gas storage is a fire-code violation subject to correction orders and fines from the local fire code official.
