Lake County Code § 150.15 adopts the 2024 ICC International Residential Code and 2024 ICC International Fire Code by reference for unincorporated Lake County, pursuant to 55 ILCS 5/5-6002 through 5-6006. The county's own chapter-by-chapter amendments in §§ 150.16 through 150.21 rewrite dozens of building-code sections but leave the codes' smoke-alarm provisions (IRC Chapter 3's R314 and IFC Section 907) untouched, so the ICC's standard detector-placement and interconnection requirements apply as published. The Planning, Building and Development Department enforces compliance. Waukegan, North Chicago, Highland Park, Gurnee, Libertyville and the county's many other municipalities administer their own building codes and are outside this chapter's reach.
