Bronx County is not in a designated wildfire hazard zone. No WUI maps, Cal Fire-equivalent designations, or Chapter 7A-style construction rules apply in NYC.
New York State does not maintain a formal wildland-urban interface (WUI) zoning system equivalent to California Government Code Β§51175-51189 or Cal Fire's Fire Hazard Severity Zones. The Bronx is coterminous with the New York City borough of the same name and falls entirely under NYC's unified fire code (NYC Fire Code, 2022, adopting the International Fire Code with NYC amendments) rather than NYS wildland fire rules (6 NYCRR Part 194). FDNY enforces all fire safety rules citywide. NYC Parks manages brush fires in Van Cortlandt Park, Pelham Bay Park, and the New York Botanical Garden; NYC's Emergency Management maintains small-brush-fire protocols but no defensible-space requirements apply to private property. The state DEC administers burn permits in rural counties under ECL Article 9 but not within NYC. Chapter 7A-style WUI construction requirements from California do not exist in New York.
Open burning (generally prohibited in NYC per NYC Admin Code Β§24-126 and NYCRR Title 15 Ch. 3): $200-$500 fine first offense. FDNY violations for unpermitted outdoor fires or pyrotechnics: $1,000+ plus summons. Park fire starting (reckless): arrest under NY Penal Law Β§150 (arson) or Β§240.40 (reckless endangerment).
