Full Breakdown
Under Broward County Code Section 39-300(t), mobile food units in unincorporated business zoning districts may stay on private property for a maximum of one hour and cannot return to the same spot more than three times in twelve hours; only one unit is allowed per plot. Units limited to frankfurters get an exception, up to eight consecutive hours with the property owner's written authorization. Every operator must hold an annual certificate of use, renewable for up to five years, backed by proof of state licensing and at least $300,000 in general liability insurance. This applies only outside Broward's 31 cities, which set their own rules, including Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood and Pembroke Pines.
Violations & Fines
Operating a mobile food unit without a valid certificate of use draws a civil penalty of $175 for a first violation and $350 for repeat violations under the Chapter 8½ Code Enforcement fine schedule.
